A piece emerging from a series of participatory workshops, exploring how human and non-human entities interweave to produce the cultural and physical landscape.
As part of the Deer-Land-People project, participatory workshops were held in which people were invited to experiment with simple weaving techniques using dried grass gathered on the Glencanisp Estate, near Lochinver. Participants created small, individual weavings which were then combined into a larger collective ‘terrain’, a process reflective of the human and non-human co-creation involved in shaping the landscape around us.
The workshops also created a space to talk about land matters and red deer questions; as the individual weavings for the collective piece grew, perspectives were exchanged and interwoven to create a distinct landscape of ideas within each workshop.
