A sculptural and immersive installation piece in the Loch Arkaig Pine Forest, commissioned by the Woodland Trust in partnership with the Arkaig Community Forest.
The installation sits within an area of Atlantic rainforest on the shores of Loch Arkaig, adjacent to felled plantation woodland. Built from timber sourced on site, the installation comprises a concentrated area of stumps which gradually recede into the landscape.
The installation is designed for both people and nature, encouraging walkers off the main woodland track and into the forest where they can walk among the stumps, or climb and sit on them. Simultaneously, the piece acts as a register of the forest’s processes: colonisation, decay and regeneration are all marked on its surface, until, with time, the piece is absorbed visually and materially into the landscape.
